Venezuela: investigation into Bustillo's disappearance launched
Editorial - El Universal
Venezuelan Defense Minister Gen. Luis García Carneiro ordered a criminal investigation on the disappearance of colonel Silvino Bustillo, who is missing since October 31, state news agency Venpres reported.
García Carneiro offered his cooperation to the Attorney General's Office for the investigation.
Journalist Manuel Isidro Molina denounced in La Razón daily that Bustillo had died after being tortured at the Military Intelligence Direction (DIM). Carneiro replied that "the government is not interested in disappearing anybody."
Alleging that there is no arrest warrant against Bustillo, Carneiro dismissed that Bustillo had been at DIM headquarters. However, he admitted that the intelligence service of the National Guard carried out a procedure at Bustillo's house after a supposed incident occurred when he went to vote in the October 31 regional election.
Alejandro Peña, a member of Bloque Democrático, ensured that Bustillo was arrested on October 31 by alleged officers of the DIM.
